Effects of composition of Pd-Cu/C catalyst for reduction of concentrated nitrate with hydrazine

Kadowaki, Haruhiko; Kato, Atsushi; Tomioka, Osamu; Meguro, Yoshihiro; Takahashi, Kuniaki

no journal, ,

Palladium-copper catalysts were developed to decompose nitrate ion in a sodium nitrate solution of high concentration using a liquid reductant. The developed Pd-Cu/C catalyst showed a catalytic activity for decomposition of nitrate. It was found that the catalyst, in which Pd/Cu ratio was 1/0.83, showed the best activity for the decomposition of nitrate ion and nitrite ion as an intermediate and that the catalytic activity increased with an increase of support ratio in the catalyst.

Preparation of PTFE-based fuel cell membranes by combining the latent track formation technology with graft polymerization

Kimura, Yosuke; Asano, Masaharu; Chen, J.; Maekawa, Yasunari; Yoshida, Masaru

no journal, ,

The development of fuel cell membranes with a high proton conduction pathway in the direction of the film thickness is advanced by introduction of graft chains in the latent track region formed with swift heavy ions with the graft polymerization. In this report, as one of the attempts to selectively introduce the graft chain only surface layer of both the latent track region and the film, the solvent on the polymerization and the influence of ion species on the structure of latent tracks were investigated in relating to the proton conductivity, ion exchange capacity and water uptake.

Adsorption of element-105 (Db) on anion-exchange resin in HF/HNO$$_{3}$$ solutions

Kasamatsu, Yoshitaka; Toyoshima, Atsushi; Asai, Masato; Tsukada, Kazuaki; Haba, Hiromitsu*; Ishii, Yasuo; Tome, Hayato; Nishinaka, Ichiro; Akiyama, Kazuhiko*; Kikunaga, Hidetoshi*; et al.

no journal, ,

Dubnium-262 was produced in the nuclear reaction of $$^{248}$$Cm($$^{19}$$F,5n)$$^{262}$$Db using the JAEA Tandem accelerator. The reaction products were rapidly transported to the chemistry laboratory and the anion-exchange behavior of Db in HF/HNO$$_{3}$$ media was investigated with an on-line rapid ion-exchange apparatus. Based on the comparison of the behavior of Db with that of its homologues (Nb, Ta, and Pa), the fluoride complex formation of Db was discussed.

Present status of material study for thermochemical IS process

Iwatsuki, Jin; Tanaka, Nobuyuki; Terada, Atsuhiko; Onuki, Kaoru; Hino, Ryutaro

no journal, ,

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has been developing the hydrogen production system by thermo-chemical IS process using the High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR). Since the IS process constitutes corrosive environments, screening of the material of construction is very important. JAEA has been conducting a screening study on material in the IS process fluids conditions, and selection of candidate material for the hydrogen production system by IS process. This paper presents present status of study for materials and equipments in the IS process.

Observation on nano-structures and molecular orientations for phthalocyanine thin films by X-ray absorption fine structure microscopy

Baba, Yuji; Sekiguchi, Tetsuhiro; Shimoyama, Iwao; Honda, Mitsunori; Hirao, Norie*; Deng, J.; Narita, Ayumi

no journal, ,

Electronic structures and molecular orientations of thin films of silicon phthalocyanine dichloride have been observed by X-ray absorption fine structure microscopy using soft X-rays from synchrotron light source. It was found that the molecular orientations of deposited layers at room temperature are different depending on the substrates. We have also observed the surface diffusion of the molecules upon heating at nanometer scale, and clarified that the molecular orientation at room temperature changes at high temperature.

Effect of sulfur dioxide partial pressure on the reaction of iodine, sulfur dioxide and water

Imai, Yoshiyuki; Nakajima, Hayato; Kasahara, Seiji; Kubo, Shinji; Onuki, Kaoru

no journal, ,

Effect of sulfur dioxide partial pressure on the reaction of iodine, sulfur dioxide and water, which is a unit reaction of thermochemical hydrogen production IS process, was studied experimentally at 323-363 K under iodine saturated condition. The value of HI/(HI+H$$_{2}$$O) of the desulfurized solution was high in great sulfur dioxide pressure and high temperature and reached the maximum of 62.0$$pm$$1.2 wt%.
